After upgrading to ubuntu12.04, I found that the broadband connection could not be dialed up. After checking a lot of information, I finally found a solution, keyword: wired network device not manager.
I set up DSL to surf the Internet according to various online tutorials, but the newly added DSL network is not displayed in the network. After various entanglements, I found a solution.
The first thing you need to do is to modify the /etc/network/interfaces file, comment out all the contents with #, that is, add a # sign in front of each line.
Then restart the network: sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
Then use the command: ps -aux | grep Network to find the corresponding NetworkManager process, sudo kill [process PID] to kill the process, then you will see your network connection icon and start connecting again. Tap which symbol of the network to connect to the newly established DSL connection.
There is also a disconnection problem. The connection is always disconnected from time to time after the link. The following is a reference plan, because I did not solve this problem.
Mainly configure two files: /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider and /etc/ppp/options
Open with the following command:
sudo gedit /etc/ppp/options
sudo gedit /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider
Find lcp-echo-failure and lcp-echo-interval respectively, the default is 4 and 30. Change these two values to be slightly larger (I changed lcp-echo-failure to 20 and lcp-echo-interval to 3000)
Finally restart the network:
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
If the connection is disconnected at this time, you need to kill the NetworkManager process.
However, there will still be disconnection problems, but the frequency is lower. I wonder if the value of lcp-echo-interval should be set larger. After disconnecting, kill the NetworkManager process.
I don’t know if you have a better plan.
