After a one-day delay, the Ubuntu Release team finally announced that the first Beta version of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) was online, and some official flavors based on the Beta image were also released.
There are many reasons for the delay in the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. First of all, the development task of this version was originally heavy, and it experienced two major CPU vulnerabilities, Meltdown and Spectre.
The second is that the team's release plan is not perfect. For example, some flavor versions were originally planned to go through two Alpha versions, one is scheduled for a week and a half after the new year, and the other is scheduled to be released on February 1. But in the end, the two Alpha versions were not released, so I have not seen the Beta version until now.
These flavor versions include Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Budgie and Ubuntu Kylin. Lubuntu and Ubuntu Studio did not go online with this Beta version, but it is expected to go online next month when the Ubuntu Release team releases the Final Beta milestone.
