Skype is one of the most popular social applications in the world. It allows you to use free voice and video calls, and international calls that can be paid.
This article explains how to install the latest version of Skype on CentOS 8.
Skype is not an open source application, it is not included in the default CentOS source. We will use Skype RPM source to install Skype.
Log in as root or another user with sudo privileges, and perform the following steps on CentOS to install Skype.
sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo https://repo.skype.com/rpm/stable/skype-stable.repo
The output will look like this:
Adding repo from: https://repo.skype.com/rpm/stable/skype-stable.repo
sudo dnf install skypeforlinux
that's it. Skype has been installed on your CentOS desktop version, and you can start using it.
You can use dnf
or use your desktop standard software upgrade tool to upgrade or uninstall Skype.
Skype can be started by entering skypeforlinux
on the command line or clicking the Skype icon (Application->Network->Skype).
When you start Skype for the first time, a window similar to the following will be displayed:
Here, you can log in to Skype with your Microsoft account, start chatting, and talk with your friends and family.
